At What Age Is Your Child Ready to Learn to Ride A Bike?

In young children, motor and cognitive skills are still developing. Sense of balance, manual dexterity, independence of the fingers, orientation and responsiveness: the basic skills required for cycling are among these faculties. The right time therefore depends less on your child's age than on the level of individual development of your child. While some little ones learn to ride a bike during elementary school, others are already so comfortable on the balance bike by the age of three or four that they can then take their first try. However, if your child is not ready from a motor point of view, the lack of progress may take away all the fun of learning, or even make him apprehend the bike. A situation to be absolutely avoided! It is in your future rider's best interest to continue exercising with the balance bike until they are truly ready for the change.
Ideally, your child should develop the motivation to learn to ride on his own. If you put pressure on him, he may indeed steer. Instead, show him your own pleasure to pedal and take him from an early age on a child seat or in a trailer. The fascination and envy of cycling will come naturally.
It's up to you to share your advice to facilitate children's first trials on the bike!
