Know The Most Appropriate Way to Install Sandstone Pavers

Installing sandstone pavers is not as hard a job as generally thought of. On the contrary, the ease with which they can be installed is what makes them such a popular paving option. They can be cut easily to suit any size or shape and can be installed in various patterns and formations, which is categorically useful in case of feature pieces. Such are sandstone pavers that anyone with DIY experience can carry out the task without having to hire the service of a professional paver.

Given below are a few steps that help pave surfaces with sandstone pavers with utmost ease and comfort:

Excavate the paving area completely: Once you have finalized the area that has to be paved, you must mark it out using small wooden stakes and then excavate it. Start by digging out the trench to a few inches in depth, which depends on the thickness of the sandstone pavers. It is suggested that at least 2 to 3 inches of depth be allowed for the base beneath the pavers. This base should then be leveled as accurately as possible after which, the paving base must be added. The base in general cases is a thick layer of cement.

Start installing the pavers there: Start laying the pavers out from the center and work outwards. During installation, you must also have to cut some of the pavers so that they fit the edges of the pavement, which can be done using a saw or some other cutting tool designed categorically for working with the stone. This will also help achieve better results, without any damage being inflicted upon the pavers. Laying the pavers one at a time and in such a way that they interlock with each other resulting in a desirable pattern should be your aim. Use a rubber mallet to hammer them in place so that they stick in the base and dish out the look of a more leveled surface. Use a spirit level to frequently check whether the surface is level or not.

Seal the pavement: As soon as all of the pavers get laid, pour sand over the entire area making sure that the sand sweeps into the cracks between the pavers with no gaps. Once all the gaps between the pavers have been filled out and the sane applied, the pavers must be sealed immediately using a special stone sealer over the entire surface. It should be left like that at least for 24 hours to get dried.
