10 Common Pasta Types and Dishes They are Used For

Pasta is a flavourful dish that can be made into gourmet meals or served as an appetizer during important meals on special occasions. It has become a popular cuisine because of its simplicity and the abundance of benefits it offers. Pasta provides consumers with a hearty burst of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals.

When one thinks of the word “pasta,” spaghetti Bolognese, carbonara, mac ‘n’ cheese, and lasagna are among the dishes that come to their mind. Consequently, they would also be thinking about authentic Italian pasta dishes. This is because pasta is among the Italian cuisine that has been adopted around the world.

The original recipe of Italian pasta focuses on simplicity and fresh and quality ingredients. It consists of pasta, bacon or pancetta, eggs, and parmesan. Consequently, other pasta dishes have originated from Italy, including lasagne, an oven-baked pasta dish made with pasta sheets and bechamel sauce layered with ragu and vegetables and topped with parmesan or mozzarella cheese.

Another pasta dish with a flat type of pasta and a rich ragu is Ragu Alla Bolognese. This recipe uses tagliatelle pasta and ragu, a meat-based sauce that is made with ground meat, stock and milk, sauteed celery and carrot, tomatoes, and red wine.

Moreover, there are also other Italian pasta dishes that use different pasta types as ingredients. One of them is tortellini. This dish consists of filled pasta (typically stuffing pasta with prosciutto or pork loin) and cheese and is served in a broth. To add extra flavor to the dish, consumers typically add parmesan and Italian seasonings.

It is evident that specific types of pasta are used for certain pasta recipes. While there are many pasta types a person can choose from, not all go well with certain sauces and ingredients. Therefore, when cooking a pasta dish, it is better to know the different pasta types and determine which variety of sauces are appropriate for each kind.
