The procedure to replace your toilet seat
A worn-out toilet seat is not only uncomfortable to use but it is literally an eye sore.
Not only it is uncomfortable, but it can be dangerous to sit on after breaking down and you should replace it immediately. However, if the toilet seats break and needs changing, you need not to worry as replacing a toilet seat is particularly an easy task and don't require a professional to help you out in this case.
We will guide you on how you can remove and replace your toilet seats right here in this article. But first you need to get the equipment to replace the toilet seat.
Buy a new toilet seat and the tools
The first step you need to take is to buy your new toilet seat, obviously. Most of the toilets which are used here in Australia are round shaped and their replacements are rather easily available in the market, in case your toilet has an elongated bowl, you would be required to put in some effort to find the right shaped seat. On the bright side there are all sorts of diverse toilet seats available, so if you're feeling like a change of landscape this should come as a great opportunity for you.
Secondly, make sure you have all the right tools to remove the old seat and replace it with the new one. The tools you would most require are
- Measuring tape
- Cloth
- Disinfecting spray
- Rubber gloves
- Wrench
Remove the old toilet seat
The first step of replacing your toilet seat involves the removal of the old toilet seat first. You need to check the nuts on the toilet seat, mostly the nuts on the toilet seat these days are winged nuts, which can be easily removed by hand or if they have gone rusty with time then you can use some oil on them to remove them.
However, if your old toilet seat uses regular nuts then you would need to remove them through a wrench or a deep socket wrench but be careful as you could break your toilet by applying too much pressure.
Sometimes the nuts will refuse to come off or you would be unable to reach them completely and in that case you would need a hacksaw to get rid of it. You should place anywhere you think that the hacksaw may touch that place so you can protect the porcelain from getting damaged. Once you have removed the nuts, clean that area with disinfectant and then dispose off of the toilet seat alongside the nuts. You will be given new bolts and nuts with the new toilet seat.
Attach the new toilet seat
Now it is time to install the new toilet seat you have bought. After placing the toilet seat, tighten the bolts and nuts in the holes. Tighten the nuts just enough so when needed you can open them without damaging the seat. While installing the seat check the lid regularly so that it is sitting perfectly on the seat and it is not doodling here and there. Your new toilet seat is ready to use
Toilet seats are a delicate piece and should be used with proper care. Keep them clean and do not shut the lid with force or leave them mid air so that they crash shut on the seat, this will damage the toilet seat.
